I have been thinking about this: damaged identity idea. I have always intuitively known about its horrors. Homophobia is so deeply ingrained in all of us, in so many ways, it's simply scary. It's all around us. It's everywhere. It's deeply internalized. Ouch. I guess the more we become aware of it, the more we'll eliminate it. Oh. This is good info. I also learned so much insider information about what a life in academic research is like. It kinda put me off the idea, which is good? But also a bummer. I still think a great deal about pursuing a Ph.D. in sociology, but the extreme specialization required makes me think I'll become less educated, rather than more. Maybe I just stay as I am, reading everything I can get my hands on, having the freedom to go off on whatever tangent I like, and being an al fresco academic? Hah! Isn’t it fab! I also learned so much insider information about what a life in academic research is like. It kinda put me off the idea, which is good? But also a bummer.
