Our online course is here: Emotional Flow!

January 27, 2012

Emotional Flow Online CourseIt’s here! Our online course is here!

I’m excited to announce a brand new way to increase your emotional skills: The 8-session online course Emotional Flow: Becoming Fluent in the Language of Emotions.

Your emotions are absolutely essential to every aspect of your intelligence and perception—yet few of us were ever taught how to work with them skillfully. Join me as I bring together new findings from sociology, psychology, neuroscience, and my own in-depth work to help you access and flow with every dimension of your emotional life.

First, you’ll learn how to identify your current areas of emotional mastery and difficulty. Then you’ll learn five core Emotional Mindfulness practices to ground yourself, create healthy boundaries, and free yourself from unhealthy emotional behaviors. With this foundation, you’ll be able to engage gracefully with every emotion you have—and you’ll learn effortless ways to bring emotional flow and empathic intelligence to every part of your life.

In the years since I wrote The Language of Emotions: What Your Feelings Are Trying to Tell You, I’ve learned so much and deepened the practices that can help you welcome the genius inside of each of your emotions. In this 8-session online course, you’ll utilize multi-media to create a rich (and fun!) learning environment that will support your emotional intelligence and your empathic skills. You can move at your own pace, and take all the time you need to integrate your learning.

What you’ll experience in Emotional Flow

In this self-paced course, you’ll learn about emotions and empathy through:

Video learning modules: I’ll introduce you to each session’s topics, explain the fundamental concepts and practices ahead, and guide you through each session.

Audio guidance: Every session includes downloadable audio files with guided practices, meditations, and “in-the-moment” strategies for working with intense emotions and situations. You can listen at home or take them with you to enjoy anywhere.

Written content: Each session incorporates essential concepts from The Language of Emotions book with expanded insights. If you’re already familiar with my book, you’ll have plenty of further material to discover. If you’re new to this work, you’ll be learning and training in a full-bodied and in-depth format.

Journaling and self-reflection: Questions in each session will help you assess your emotional strengths and challenges, your current obstacles and supports, and your own emotional transformation plan.

Plus: You’ll also be able to archive the entire program in downloadable format—all audio and videos sessions, recordings of the live events, and an ebook containing the written content are yours to use and enjoy at any time.

Register here for Emotional Flow: Becoming Fluent in The Language of Emotions — $49!

CEUs are available for U.S. participants — 10 Continuing Education Credit hours for an additional $40.

If you have any questions about logistics or infrastructure, call customer service at Sounds True: 1-800-333-9185, option 3

Awesome! “see” you next month!

Karla February 6, 2012 at 4:42 pm

Hello again! Just so you know: This course will be available after the live sessions end in May. Everything will be archived, and you can take the course whenever you have the time. So if you can’t make it for the live version from March 13th to May 3rd, you can still access the course and work through it at your own pace.

Janice Camp February 19, 2012 at 5:34 pm

Hi! I am so looking forward to this course. I’m telling everyone I know to get their registration in, too! After our week at Kripalu, I realized how much work there is to be done, so I’m in!

Helen Bird February 22, 2012 at 9:26 pm

Hello from Britain! I’ve just signed up for Emotional Flow and I wondered if anyone else from the UK was taking part?
It’s great to be able to participate even though I live on the other side of the world, I’m very grateful for the opportunity to take part in this online course, this will be my first interactive experience (I’m staying up until midnight on the 22nd March to take part. I’m excited!)

Karla February 23, 2012 at 12:19 am

Hello Helen, and welcome to the course! I think there are other people from the UK in the course, because I’ve heard some talk over on Facebook. I’ll ask there and see if you’ll have any country-mates.

Cheers,
Karla

Karla February 27, 2012 at 7:35 pm

Hello again Helen! A woman named Sophie from Denmark has replied and says hello! It’s not exactly the UK, but it’s in the neighborhood!

Mary Barrett February 28, 2012 at 3:12 pm

I was sick and and had to cancel at Kripalu! But I will do this course. Hurray!

Karla February 28, 2012 at 3:18 pm

Oh, I’m so glad you’ll be with us! Yay Mary!

13 days to go until the start of Emotional Flow 🙂 can you tell I can’t wait?!

Karla February 29, 2012 at 5:06 pm

I can’t wait to get into the online infrastructure and see what everything looks like! It’s so fun to create things with Sounds True. They take all my data and work and make it beautiful!

Christina Hunt February 29, 2012 at 7:36 pm

Hello, I have just signed up and I am from the UK. Really looking forward to experiencing on line learning. Can’t wait to get started!

Karla February 29, 2012 at 8:42 pm

Welcome, Christina!

Lesley March 2, 2012 at 5:17 am

Hello! I am feeling very drawn to take the online course, but I will be away for the first and possibly second week of it… I assume it has a timeline as it has dates involved, or can I start it and end it whenever it works for me???

Thanks,
Lesley

Karla March 2, 2012 at 3:08 pm

Hello Lesley,

You can access your course materials wherever you are, if that’s any support.

Week one (available March 13th) is an introduction to the concepts of Emotional Flow, and it’s a chance to learn the Five Emotional Mindfulness skills from the book.

Week two (available March 20th) moves further into the practices and gives you some time to incorporate them before we look at the emotions themselves in weeks three through six.

There’s a live session on week two (Thursday, March 22nd), but it will be recorded and uploaded in a few days, so you won’t miss what’s said.

You can catch up when you’re back if you can’t access a computer when you’re away — and the materials are yours to download, and available throughout the course, so you’ll have free access to them.

I hope that helps!
Karla

Susan Webert March 5, 2012 at 4:51 pm

I am wondering if CEUs would be available for counselors with this workshop. Thanks.

Karla March 5, 2012 at 6:57 pm

Hello Beverly and Susan — welcome! I look forward to meeting you in the course!

Susan, I’ve asked Sounds True (they’re offering the course through their infrastructure) about CEUs, and I should know this week. I’ll update here when I know.

Welcome!

Mary Ann Ribble March 8, 2012 at 5:36 pm

A question?? We have a MAC OS X 10.4.11 and I am wondering if that shouldn’t be okay? Do you have any idea?

Karla March 8, 2012 at 8:49 pm

Hi Mary Ann,

Thanks for the question. I asked the folks at Sounds True, and they said that it should be fine. However, if the course doesn’t work on your platform, they have a satisfaction guarantee, so you won’t be out the moolah.

If you have any other questions about logistics, you can check in with customer service at Sounds True: 1-800-333-9185, option 3.

Julie Barve March 12, 2012 at 4:57 pm

Dear Karla,
First Thank You so much for your amazing book!!! My husband and I have read it and now are listening to it, or to you:)
We would love to do this course, I hope you will do another one and if/when so, perhaps the time could be 11am or 12noon west coast time, as we live in Sweden and the 8pm Eastern time is 2am for us.
I understand the time you have on a Tuesday to work around people’s work sch. and weekends may not be ideal for people, so I get it, but just wanted to throw this idea out to you:) you have gone international:))
Again Thank You with all of our hearts for your work and caring we are so grateful, Julie

Karla March 12, 2012 at 7:35 pm

Hi Julie,

The course will be available for on-demand viewing after the live session is over (in May). You’ll be able to access it at any time.

But just to be sure, I want to check in: There are only 3 instances where there is a live component, and the rest of the course materials are available at any time of the night or day. To take the course, you go to your own online account, and you can do all the reading, listening, interaction, and video components at your leisure. The three live sessions are one-hour Q&A, and if you can’t make it live, they will be recorded and available to you within a few days.

If you have questions and you can’t make the live session, you can just post them in the Forum of the course, and I can answer them there. The live sessions are fun, but they’re a very minor aspect of the course.

Karla March 13, 2012 at 5:14 pm

Hi Nayla,

I’m not sure. Sounds True is in charge of all the course architecture, and you can check in with customer service at Sounds True: 1-303-665-3151, option 3. Their e-mail is customerservice@soundstrue.com.

I hope to “see” you in the course soon!

Christina Hunt March 13, 2012 at 5:25 pm

Hi Nayla,
I am having the same trouble as you accessing the material. I am also finding that I can’t log into the forum as they say I am ‘spam’ 🙁
Will contact Sounds True if it is not corrected by the end of the day!

Christina Krygier March 18, 2012 at 9:39 am

Hi Karla and everyone
I’m another Christina from the UK – what are the odds of that happening? I joined the course just yesterday so I’m way behind but it looks really interesting. A friend mentioned it having talked to Helen Bird who I believe is registered. I read the description and knew immediately it was for me so I ordered the book and signed up there and then.
Just realised that I should have written this on the forum – I’ll copy it and post it there as well.
love
Christina

Karla March 18, 2012 at 3:11 pm

Welcome Christina! You’ll have plenty of time to catch up. The sessions have lots of room in them for reflection and relaxation.

See you in the Forum!

Joannie March 27, 2012 at 7:27 am

Will you be offering this course again in 2012 and/or 2013? I found out about you and your work recently.

Karla May 1, 2012 at 5:52 pm

Hello! The course is available at any time. The live portion is just coming to an end, but all 8 session of the course are available now, and will be in the future. All of the live content has been recorded, and is now available for you to enjoy. It’s a wonderful course, and such fun!

katherine October 8, 2012 at 8:50 pm

Hi!

I just ordered the archived course from soundstrue, but they are having technical issues, so its not currently accessible. I am, however, looking forward to working with it, and hope it will be back up soon! Your book gave me many amazing new articulations, attitudes and ways of being with my own emotional world and has had a really good impact on my life in a pretty immediate way. Thank you!

Katherine

Karla October 9, 2012 at 12:35 am

Thanks Katherine, for the heads up! I just went into my version of it, and it’s gone as well. I sent a message to the tech people, and I’ll let you know what I learn.

katherine October 9, 2012 at 4:13 pm

Thanks! I’m looking forward to going through it- good autumn! 🙂

Karla October 9, 2012 at 6:14 pm

Hello Katherine – my access had expired, so the people at Sounds True repopulated my account and now I’m good. They also said that the tech issues have been dealt with. If you still can’t get in, they asked me to give you their contact info: customerrelations@soundstrue.com or call: 800-333-9185.

I hope your next interaction with Emotional Flow is easy, fun, and accessible!

[…] I’m also often planning to take a course of some sort and these can be anything from a 1 day course, or a short online course, or even a full fledged college course. In fact, as I’m writing this I am downloading the video for a course I’ve started with Karla McLaren on Emotional Flow. […]

Lynn November 29, 2012 at 8:34 pm

Please tell me who your continuing education credits are approved through. Thank you

Karla November 30, 2012 at 10:23 pm

Hi Lynn, The course is offered through Sounds True, and they’re offering the CEUs through a number of different licensing boards, depending on your profession. Here’s the link to the page where you can get that information: http://www.soundstrue.com/cecredits/

Nancy May 26, 2013 at 5:06 pm

Hi Karla,
A check-in from Canada! Just love your book have been studying it with my coach & fellow apprentices. A quick question – are you going to be offering another seminar more in line with your upcoming book to be published in Oct? Am certainly considering your program but wondering if it would be better to wait until your new book comes out? Maybe I’ll try to get down to one of your courses in the States.
n

Karla May 26, 2013 at 8:41 pm

Hello Nancy, thanks for your inquiry.

Yes, I’ll be doing an in-person program on The Art of Empathy in January (Jan 5th to Jan 10th, 2014) at the Kripalu retreat center in Western Massachusetts. I’ll post more about it (here, on my Facebook page, and in my newsletter) when registration is available.

Until then, Emotional Flow is a nice addition to the work you’re already doing — it bridges the two books, in a way.
