The Emotion Cards are here!!

August 19, 2011

Woot! The new 24-card deck of the Language of Emotions Cards arrived this week, and they are awesome! See them live! In color!

The Emotion Cards: Each of the seventeen emotion cards contains a detailed list of the gifts each emotion brings you, questions you can ask yourself when each emotion arises, signs of obstruction or trouble in that emotion, and a focused, hands-on practice for working with that emotion in your daily life. Includes Anger, Fear, Sadness, Happiness, Apathy, Guilt & Shame, Hatred, Grief, Contentment, Jealousy, Envy, The Suicidal Urge, Joy, and more … every emotion is presented as a necessary aspect of your cognitive and social skills.

The Empathic Skills Cards: Each of the seven empathic skills cards were created to help you bring focus and mindfulness to your emotional life. These skills utilize one or more emotions in their “free-flowing” states so that you can begin to articulate between differing levels of emotion and integrate your mindfulness practice and your emotional awareness. These skills will help you maintain your focus, understand appropriate boundaries, address internal tension, and work with your strong emotions with grace, humor, and intelligence. Includes the five Empathic Mindfulness skills from The Language of Emotions, plus Stress & Resistance, and suggestions for using these cards as a part of your daily empathic practice.

The Language of Emotions Cards will help you quickly identify, understand, and respond to your emotions — and they’ll act as reminders of the empathic mindfulness skills that help you integrate your emotive life, your intelligence, your ethics, and your empathy. Thank you for bringing your emotional awareness and your empathy to a waiting world!

Karla – this is great! I have discovered you recently and am so glad. I am finishing up training with Kathy Pike in Equine Facilitated Learning and Coaching. I will be a certified facilitator in mid Sept. Kathy trained with Linda Kohanov who you know! Maybe you know Kathy too! In our training the emotional messages are one of the key foundation pieces.
The Language of Emotions is such a gem!
I’m going to buy the cards asap. Also, I am signing up for your program at Kripalu. I live in MA on Cape Cod. See you then!

Karla August 20, 2011 at 2:04 pm

Thanks everybody! And Mary, I look forward to seeing you at Kripalu! February, brrrr! We’ll hang out in the hot tub between classes. 😉

I like that your house is so neatly decorated/organized. It has such a peaceful tone to it.

The next level would be to create a video game (for our emotionally-stunted) youth about empathic skills. That would be awesome.

Congragulations! I can’t wait to start using this amazing tool in my life.

Hi Karla, I just purchased your book a couple of months ago and I LOVE I! It’s the best source of information I have every come across as it relates the Emotions…and I have read many.

The idea to create cards was an awesome idea! Sometimes, I would get so caught up in the emotion (ex; anger), I would completely forget everything I learned. No more do I have to carry the book around, scurry to find the section that covers a particular emotion. Again – great idea, keep up the good work!

Thank you! I was thinking this weekend that we should make a card trading game, where if I’m feeling an emotion that’s really cool, I can give you the card and ask you to feel the emotion with me. Or we could say, “I’ll trade you an Envy for your Anger!” If someone is really honorable with their anger, that is!

Emotion Trading Cards! Say, that’s an idea!

p.s. it’s so absolutely awesome that you used soy-based ink for the printing 🙂

Karla August 29, 2011 at 7:55 pm

Lily, thanks for asking. Yes to soy and recycled paper! And printing in a first-world country! I worked in the printing industry, and wow, it was a very toxic process — and very hard on the workers’ bodies. I really focus, whenever I print anything, on workers being protected and well paid, so I searched for just the right printing company. They’re O’Dell Printing in Rohnert Park, California. Excellent work, and excellent workplace. Huzzah!

Karla September 14, 2011 at 6:04 pm

Mary Ann! You didn’t miss it! We moved it to March because we wanted to create a bunch of videos for it, and we needed production time. The 8-week online course, Speaking the Language of Emotions will run from Tuesday, March 13th to Wednesday, May 3rd, 2012.

It will be awesome, it will be affordable, and you will be there! I’ll post about it here, on Facebook, and in the newsletter, so you won’t miss it.

I’VE GOT MY LANGUAGE OF EMOTIONS , in English as I wanted it…wondering if it is translated into Spanish already?? hope it d be soon to recommend it to friends…
wow! Gee! I burst into tears of emotion watching your video presenting the golden award!!hhhhhhhhh….lately I cry like a kid with any_every happy emotive news, hhhhhhh…
looking forward to get your cards …Do you think they can be used in the same way as the tarot, well, slightly…that the card chosen is the mood needed to work on in a given moment??
I would love your opinion on a personal issue, about studying a degree like psychology, or any humanitarian branch, though I don’t know which one could lead me better; my dream job: I want to create workshops in which we all get grounded and relax into our body and feelings…mixing yoga, dance and singing…and astrological study which is my hobby from the age of 15…I’m 36 now…and with that feeling of starting over…
Hope that with these awards we can finally include the language of emotions in many careers like psychology or pedagogy, then I would not actually doubt their utility!!!
a biiiiig hug!

Hola Seusen! Nothing yet about getting the book into Spanish, though my publisher is taking it to an international book fair this winter. Let’s hope!

As to your degree; if you want to work directly with people, perhaps psychology would be a good choice – though social psychology is also very fun, and relates to how people interact in social groups.. Social work is more about working with at-risk populations and providing social support, but that may be a worthwhile option.

Seusen October 29, 2011 at 12:26 pm

HMMMM….yes, thank youu!!!

Michael C November 8, 2011 at 11:57 pm

Karla, thank you for interpreting this profound work for us, and for me. I am understanding now, at the age of 51, what I wish that I knew fluently at age 7. Which begs my question: could The Language of Emotions become modified into a children’s book, or formatted into a series of books adapting to the growing age groups? This would be an enormous service to parenting the world over! Thank you Karla!

Karla November 9, 2011 at 4:21 am

Thanks Michael! Wow, this is the fourth time this week that I’ve been asked for cards for children. I really have to look at this idea.

For now, though, I’m reading a very good book for children 8 to 13. It’s called Understanding Myself: A Kid’s Guide to Intense Emotions and Strong Feelings by Dr. Mary Lamia, and I’ll be doing a review of it here soon. I mentioned it earlier this year here: If you know of children in this age group, this is a great resource!
