The Off-Ramp Project, Season 2

A deeper dive in season 2

In Season 1 of my new podcast, The Off-Ramp Project, I explored ways to step away from the polarization, emotional manipulation, enemy-making, and intentional chaos that reigns in the United States.

Each of these things is an intrinsic part of abusive relationships and also of cultic mechanisms of control.

This season, I’m delving more deeply into the ways we’re being managed, manipulated, and driven further away from one another so that we can be controlled, and sorry neither, that’s not how things need to go.

This week, I look at the fifteen-dollar words that make up the concept of fascism, which is a word that people on the left are throwing around with abandon.

There are better — and far simpler — ways to describe what’s happening to us. However, an understanding of political movements, social structures, and power plays is always helpful.

How do we take an off-ramp when our political world is filled with trouble?

Simple: by refusing to be alienated from each other, and by connecting to what’s eternally important for human flourishing.

Empathy, connection, care for all, beauty, art, strength, humor, intelligence, and fellow-feeling. These are the things worth fighting for.
